is it possible to connect RC plane 2.4GHz transmitter with dipole omni-directional antenna?
I am using my 4 channel fatuba 2.4GHz transmitter and recevier for my RC plane. but the problem is it's less range about 500 meters. someone told me to connect dipole omni-directional antenna which will increase the controlling range upto 1.5 Km to 2 Km. so is it possible
Well, I suppose it is quite possible, so long as you keep the transmitter "looking" at the aircraft and have the dipole broadside to it. You may still have loss due to cross- polarisation of the antennas, if you have a "vertical" receive antenna. If the receive just uses a longish trailing wire like is used with lower frequency transmitters, this should be no problem.
For sizing, you need the wavelength, 300/Frequency in mHz.
300/2400 = .125 metres, 1/2 wavelength would be .0625 metres, so this is 62.5 mm tip to tip.
As you can see, the antenna is very small as a dipole!
This should be centre fed ... the fcentre feed impedance of a dipole is about 75 ohms, and probably the best way to feed it would be by a parallel feeder line of this impedance. Then I would wonder at the design impedance of the final amp. in the transmitter.?
This leaves me wondering whether you actually need to change anything, as 500 metres ground range translates to approx. 3 times that in the air! I would suspect that you would have trouble seeing an aircraft at 500 metres, let alone 1 1/2 kilometres.
I don't know what length your current transmit antenna is, if it were only 1/4 wavelength, it would only be around 31mm. long. If it is much longer than this, its radiation pattern is probably flattened, not truly omni. This would lessen the range above the transmitter some, if the antenna was kept vertical.
